Sumeet Raghvan has this to say when asked whether the third season of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is on the cards.
Deven Bhojani’s Sarabhai vs Sarabhai remains one of the most popular Hindi sitcoms, fondly remembered for its quirky characters and sharp humour. From Maya Sarabhai’s (Ratna Pathak Shah) elite snobbery, to Monisha’s (Rupali Ganguly) unapologetically middle-class ways, and Rosesh Sarabhai’s (Rajesh Kumar) love for absurd poetry, the show has, over the years, become a pop-culture staple on social media.
In 2015, the show briefly returned with ten new episodes (Season 2). The attempt was welcomed by fans with great excitement, but it failed to recreate the magic of its first season.
In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Sumeet Raghvan who essayed the role of Sahil Sarabhai in the TV show, was asked if there is a possibility of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai 3.
In response, the actor said that every time the original cast and crew meet, the excitement about Season 3 resurfaces among fans. He said, “You created something once and achieved something special. It becomes very difficult to emulate that.”
Using Taj Mahal as a metaphor, Sumeet explained why it would be difficult to recreate the success of its first season. He told the interviewer, “A Taj Mahal once made can’t be recreated. Even if the same artisans come together, it will not be the same.”
Elaborating on how the first season had a huge impact on the audience, the actor revealed, “From the Mona Lisa painting to the clock to the pillars. Our home was red, while my parents’ home was blue; it depicted a typical South Bombay household, and in the second season, people started missing that essence.
Sumeet revealed that whenever the possibility of a third season of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai came up during meetings, he would dismiss the idea by saying, “Chhod do, Yeh rehne do. Let us just enjoy ourselves.”
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is a satirical sitcom where an elite South Mumbai family constantly clashes over class, culture, and quirks.
