Sara Ali Khan made her acting debut with Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Kedarnath (2018), and went on to star in films like Simmba, Atrangi Re, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke amongst others. Some hit the bull’s eye at the box office, a few failed to impress. Nevertheless, Sara has built her own fan base with her body of work.

In her latest interview with Harper’s Bazaar India, Sara Ali Khan spoke about how she selects her scripts.

The ‘Love Aaj Kal’ actress said, “To essay roles, concepts, and stories that are different—versatility is always exciting. How is this going to be different and make the audience excited to watch it is always part of my thought process. Does reading about this character help me gain something from it? Do I understand myself better while doing this role, or [do I] add something that I understand about life to this role? This is what I look at while choosing a script. What’s also important is that it should strike a chord as I rely a lot on honesty and conviction.”

Talking about how she seeks inspiration from her actor-parents Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, Sara shared, “I think when I look at my parents and their career graphs, what sets them apart is originality. That’s what I’ve always aspired to do—be an honest, true, and an original person. If I’m being very honest, the world we live in can be very confusing, you may think you’re part of a rat race. This is where you need to remind yourself that you need to be yourself and a better version every single day.”

While admitting that fame is an important part of the acting job, the ‘Gaslight’ actress said that it’s more important how one deals with it, and doesn’t let it get into the head.

“Being famous for being an actor is a part of who I am, but there has to be, and there is, more to me. Understanding success, failure, highs and lows, the fame, all of that is an important aspect of me, but it doesn’t define me. I’m in touch with a more internal core aspect of myself that will not change even if these things go up and down. You’ll be good one Friday and not good on another,” Sara told the publication.

The actress said that she aspires to be the kind of person who appreciates her fame and strives for success, but doesn’t allow herself to be validated by these things.

On being asked how she sees her evolution as an actor and the important lessons she has learnt in her acting journey, Sara emphasized that every single film a new opportunity to learn and grow. She said that she is looking forward to discover more aspects of herself, in more genres, and do what she loves to do—entertain the audience.

On the work front, Sara Ali Khan’s last on screen appearance was Kannan Iyer’s Ae Watan Mere Watan. Her upcoming projects are Anurag Basu’s Metro…Inn Dino and Akshay Kumar-Veer Pahariya starrer Sky Force.
