Samantha Ruth Prabhu, in one of her recent interviews, shared the reason behind why she had initially turned down Shaakuntalam when she was approached for it.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who made her acting debut with Gautam Vasudev Menon’s 2010 romantic drama, Yeh Maya Chesave, has established herself as one of the most sought-after leading ladies in the South industry. The actress is slowly gaining popularity in the Hindi circuit as well after she left everyone impressed with her performance in Raj & DK’s popular web series, The Family Man 2.
Currently, the actress is busy with the promotions of her upcoming Telugu mythological drama, Shaakuntalam helmed by Gunasekhar. In one of her recent interviews, Samantha revealed that she had initially turned down this film offer.
Explaining the reason behind the same, the ‘O Antava’ actress told TV 9, “The offer came to me at a time when I had just completed shooting for The Family Man 2. I had just played Raji, a character so different from Shakuntala in so many ways. Shakuntala is a symbol of purity, innocence, grace and dignity. Raji, on the other hand, was all about being gritty and real. I wasn’t sure if I could transform into Shakuntala at that point.”
Samantha further added that she finally took up Shaakuntalam to confront the fears that have been haunting her in the last three years.
“In the last 3 years, I have lived in a lot of fear. Shakuntala faced so much hardship but she faced all of it with dignity and grace. When I learnt about it, I took up the offer to confront my fears. How I confronted my fear in the last three years describes my evolution as an actor,” the Mersal actress told the channel.
Samantha also described her role in this film as the closest she could get to her dream of portraying a ‘Disney princess.’
On the work front, besides Shaakuntalam, the actress has Raj & DK’s Indian instalment of Citadel alongside Varun Dhawan and Vijay Deverakonda starrer Kushi in her kitty.
