Sai Pallavi opened up on the difference between Bollywood and the South film industry in a recent interview.

Sai Pallavi’s theatrical latest release Amaran alongside Sivakarthikeyan has been receiving appreciation from every nook and corner. The actress who predominately works in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema is now gearing up to make her debut in Hindi films with Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming two-part epic Ramayana.

Amid all this, the ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ actress in her recent interaction with Pinkvilla, was asked to explain the difference between Bollywood and the South film industry.

In response, Sai pointed out that she feels that there is a lot of room for improvisation down South. On the other hand, when it comes to Bollywood, there are times when she feels that everything here is perfect, further admitting that as a result of this, she gets a little scared to improvise.

The actress explained, “I think that there’s a lot of work that goes into the pre-production and how meticulous it is when you shoot, but down south it’s a little more, you can improvise; there’s a lot of room for improvisation. Here (Bollywood), sometimes I feel that everything is perfect. I’m scared that if I want to improvise, there are a lot of things that need to change. So in that way, I find that a little bit different, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same.”

Further highlighting upon another major difference between the two industries, she continued, “We had assistant directors, and we still have a lot of assistant directors who don’t get paid as much as they do over here (Bollywood). And that is why you see that over here, when you’re an assistant director, they hang on, and they’re there, and they’ll come even for the next film, because you know that it’s all safe and fine.”

“But down south, I don’t know if they’re given or they’re paid as much as they deserve to be paid. So, sometimes it’s a little heartbreaking when you know that they’re talented, they work really hard, but they don’t get the deserving pay. So that’s another difference that I’ve seen,” the actress said in her interview.

Coming back to Sai’s Bollywood debut, Ramayana, the makers recently made the official announcement for this ambitious film which features actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and many other prominent names. While the first installment of this Nitesh Tiwari directorial is scheduled to release in 2026, the second part will hit the big screens in 2027.
