Gulshan Devaiah who shared screen space with Ranveer Singh in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, recalled how the latter would sometimes break down in a corner after performing an emotional sequence for the film.
Just like his acting prowess, Ranveer Singh’s infectious energy never fails to attract attention. In a recent interview, one of his co-stars, Gulshan Devaiah talked about how the actor is a bundle of energy both on screen as well as off-screen.
The ‘Hunterrr’ actor told host Siddharth Kannan that he and Ranveer shared a good professional relationship on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Speaking about Ranveer’s energetic personality, he said, “He is very energetic. He has always been like this, extremely energetic. You can call it attention seeking but some people have that thing.”
Gulshan recalled being in an acting workshop with Ranveer for two weeks and said that even back then, he walked like a movie star. He said that Singh projects himself like a movie star because he believes he is a movie star.”
“Sometimes, I would walk in a corner after doing a take with him because he is so energetic. His energy is so much that sometimes it is not sustainable for someone to match that. You get affected by it. Sometimes you don’t want to deal with it. Sometimes you want peace,” Gulshan told Siddharth.
Further, the ‘Dahaad’ actor recalled how he and Ranveer were competitive with each other, “but not in a negative way”.
Gulshan shared, “Bhansali sir was praising me but Ranveer had not started shooting yet. So he is like ‘Sir was raving about you’. Maine kaha bhai kuch jalne ki boo aa rahi hai. Par mazak kar rahe the hum (I said I can smell something burn but we were just joking).”
In the same interview, Gulshan also reacted to Prashant Narayan’s comments on Ranveer where the actor suggested that the ‘Gully Boy’ star lied about his dark phase during Padmaavat.
According to Gulshan, every actor has his own process and he then went on to share how Ranveer would sometimes cry in a corner after performing an emotional scene on ‘Ram-Leela’ sets.
“On the sets of Ram-Leela, sometimes after doing an emotional scene, he would sit in a corner and cry. Now you can look at it as attention seeking, maybe it was. But maybe there is some truth to it also. Maybe he is unable to shake it off,” Devaiah recalled and added that he had seen him crying a couple of times on the sets.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial featured Deepika Padukone as the leading lady.
