Rani Mukerji said she would love to reprise her role of Shivani Roy in Mardaani 3. At the same time, she also added that the film can happen only if the makers come up with a script that’s relatable and empowering to girls.
There’s no doubt that Rani Mukerji aces the romantic genre and makes us skip a heartbeat with her dazzling smile. At the same time, the actress also never shies away from stepping out of her comfort zone and taking up challenging roles. Speaking about which, who can forget her portrayal of a tough cop Shivani Roy in Mardaani (2014) and Mardaani 2 (2019)?
Both the movies had the Black star showcasing some kicks and punches (literally) on the big screen. Now, fans are eagerly watching for the third instalment in this franchise. Recently, in an interview with Film Companion, Rani shared that she would be ‘happy and excited’ to be a part of Mardaani 3.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai actress said, “I’m crossing my fingers because I would love to play the part of Shivani. When I did ‘Mardaani 2’, I was quite nervous because I had never done a sequel before. It’s because I leave my characters behind each time a film gets over and then I don’t know if I will be able to reprise that part again. With Mardaani 2, I was surprised that I enjoyed reprising the part so now I want to reprise it again in Mardaani 3. I will be very happy and excited if the Mardaani 3 script comes about and we would make the film.”
Rani added that Mardaani 3 can’t be made unless the story has substance, and is relatable and empowering to girls.
“I as an actor always believe that we don’t want to do a film just because it sounds good, we need to make a film when the script is good and we want to make a film that makes a difference. With Mardaani 3, we can’t make a film if the story does not have that substance. It has to be something that people relate with today and girls find it empowering, only then we can do Mardaani 3. We can’t do it just because it sounds exciting. I am hoping that if they can crack a real good script, I would just get on with it,” the Bollywood star said in her interview.
On the film front, Rani Mukerji was last seen in Ashima Chibber’s Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway.
