Vipin Sharma, who was a part of Dhanush-Sonam Kapoor’s Raanjhanaa, slammed the AI-altered climax of the film.

Aanand L Rai’s 2013 romantic drama Raanjhanna recently saw a re-release in theatres with the film’s production banner Eros International tweaking the film’s original tragic climax with the help of AI for a happy ending. The decision to alter the climax was met with criticism from the film’s director Aanand L Rai and lead actor Dhanush.

Now, Vipin Sharma who essayed the role of Dhanush’s father in the film, has slammed the AI-tweaked ending.

The actor said, “I don’t think it should have been done, I don’t see the necessity of doing it. I am still trying to understand why they did it. I can’t think about any reason why the ending needs to be changed. Fir toh Heer Ranjha, Laila Majnu ki bhi ending change kar do, they are also tragic love stories.”

Sharma also questioned why the production banner took this decision in the first place.

“Just because AI can be used to better things, it doesn’t mean that it should be used for anything. If somebody convinces me that this is the reason we did it, I would love to hear that. But, personally I don’t understand why it was done. Sirf ending dekhne ke liye log jaaenge kya cinema hall mein, I am just confused. So, you mean to say that people will now go to the theatres to simply see the new ending changed by AI? It doesn’t make any sense to me,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.

Raanjhanaa revolves around a lovestruck boy from Varanasi who spends years chasing his childhood crush, only to be shattered by betrayal, politics, and the cost of unrequited love. Besides Dhanush, the AR Rahman musical also stars Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Swara Bhasker.
