Aanand L Rai opened up on his upcoming directorial Tere Ishk Mein which features Dhanush in a leading role.

Recently, director Aanand L Rai dropped a pleasant surprise for his fans when he announced his third film with Dhanush titled Tere Ishk Mein on the completion of 10 years of their 2013 romantic drama Raanjhanaa. Previously, the director-actor duo had teamed up on Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re.

The makers announced this Dhanush starrer with a promo video which went viral in no time on social media. It featured the actor, holding a petrol bomb while smoking and running towards a wall with glass shattering around him. He is also heard saying, “Pichli baar toh Kundan tha, maan gaya. Par iss baar Shankar ko kaese rokoge,” and then hurling the bomb at the wall which causes a fire. This is followed by a background score of an instrumental rendition of AR Rahman’s music from Raanjhanaa.

This sneak-peek left the fans speculating about the film’s connection with Raanjhanaa. In a recent interview with Variety magazine, Aanand L Rai clarified that the story of Tere Ishk Mein isn’t similar as Raanjhanaa, it has similar heartbeat as his 2013 film.

Without divulging any details about the plot, the filmmaker shared, “When we were working on the Tere Ishk Mein script, we realized that we are catching on to the same aggression. And in terms of genre, it’s falling in that genre of tragedy and I said, it’s actually belonging to that world. They’re not similar stories, but they have a similar heartbeat. We were getting the same feeling what we were getting when we were working on Raanjhanaa. I said, let’s start belonging to that world.”

He also revealed that only a part of Tere Ishk Mein will be shot in Varanasi while the rest of the movie will be filmed elsewhere.

Rai also opened up on collaborating with ace music maestro AR Rahman again on this film. He told the publication, “I want to indulge more when I have a big talent like A.R. Rahman, because it’s so much of learning and especially when you are going for a love story, you’re talking about something as pure as a man-woman relationship – it’s so beautiful to see him grow with time. Even I’m stopping myself by giving him the situation of the songs. As a creative team, let’s talk about the story and see what melodies come in rather than I telling him that I need something like this. Let’s explore the entire world of Tere Ishk Mein.”

Meanwhile, the makers are yet to announce the rest of the cast of the film.
