Priyanka Chopra, in a new interview, recalled one of her unpleasant experiences from her early days in Hindi film industry.
Priyanka Chopra is one of the few actresses in Hindi cinema who was never shied away from talking about her struggles during the initial phase in her career. In a recent interview with The Zoe Report, the Don actress recalled an incident from the year 2002-03 where she was cast in film in which she was to play an undercover agent.
PeeCee told the magazine that she was new to the industry and was working with a director she had never met before. Recalling the incident, the actress said, “I’m seducing the guy and you have to take off one piece of clothing (at a time). I wanted to layer up. The filmmaker was like, ‘No, I want to see her underwear. Otherwise, why is anybody coming to the movie.” She added that the filmmaker said these things to her stylist, and she overheard him.
“It was such a dehumanizing moment. It was a feeling of, I’m nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I can contribute is not important,” the magazine quoted Priyanka as saying.
The actress said that she eventually dropped out of the film as she didn’t want to see his face every day. Further, she even paid the production team of the movie whatever money was spent on her, on the insistence of her father.
Before this revelation, Priyanka had grabbed headlines when she talked about leaving Bollywood after being pushed in a corner, having beef with people and being tired of the politics there.
On the work front, Priyanka Chopra’s latest globe-trotting web series, Citadel is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Speaking about her career in Bollywood, she will be seen sharing screen space with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zara.
