Priyanka Chopra recently revealed the real reason why she looked up for work in the west. The actress shared that she wasn’t getting the work that she wanted because she had beef with some people in Bollywood.
After carving a name for herself in the Hindi film industry, Priyanka Chopra decided to give her music career a shot in the US. However, the actress tasted success there with her show, Quantico which slowly paved the way for her to become a global icon.
Meanwhile back in India, there were many speculations doing the rounds about why she left behind her well-established career in Bollywood to pursue acting in the west.
Recently, while speaking with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert, Priyanka opened up on the same as she was feeling ‘safe’ during their conversation. The Dostana actress admitted that she wasn’t happy with the kind of work that she was getting in Bollywood.
Speaking about how things fell in place for her in Hollywood, PeeCee revealed that while she was shooting for Saat Khoon Maaf, Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits who spotted her in a music video, called her up and asked her if she would be interested in a music career in US.
Priyanka told Dax that back then, she was also looking for a way out of Bollywood.
“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break. This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it. So, when this music thing came, I was like ‘fu** it, I am going to America’,” the actress said in the podcast.
She went on to mention all the singing stars that she worked with such as Pitbull, Will.I.Am, Pharell Williams. Priyanka said that she even met Jay Z.
However, when her music career did not pan out, she realised she was ‘much better at my day job’. Later, someone suggested she try out for acting roles in the US. Eventually, she bagged the lead role in Quantico which helped her to gain popularity in the international circuit. She even starred in Hollywood films like Baywatch, The White Tiger and The Matrix Resurrections. Her upcoming projects are Russo Brothers’ Citadel and a film called Love Again.
Speaking about her Bollywood career, Priyanka was last seen in Shonali Bose’ The Sky Is Pink alongside Farhan Akhtar, Zaira Wasim and Rohit Saraf in 2019. The actress is all set to return to Hindi cinema with Farhan Akhtar’s next directorial, Jee Le Zara co-starring Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif.
