Ponniyin Selvan 2 opens with impressive box office numbers on its first day of release.
Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan 2 arrived in cinema halls on Friday (April 28, 2023). The epic upon its release, won the hearts of the critics and the audience alike with praises pouring in for Vikram-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s powerful performances, stunning visuals and Mani Ratnam’s deft direction.
Speaking about its performance at the box office on its opening day, the film collected around Rs 24 Crore (in all languages) on Day 1. The first film, Ponniyin Selvan had minted an opening collection of Rs 40 Crore.
As per a report in Sacnilk, Ponniyin Selvan 2 minted Rs 24 Crore in Tamil. It collected Rs 1.70 Crore in Hindi, Rs 1.35 Crore in Malayalam, Rs 3.40 Crore in Telugu and Rs 0.03 Crore in Kannada.

Previously, at a promotional event of Ponniyin Selvan 2, Vikram had talked about his chemistry with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film.
The actor had shared, “I love the unrequited love between Nandini and Aditya Karikalan. It’s a very different kind of love. I’ve romanced a lot of people in several movies, and it’s always been either one-sided or mutual love. But in this film, for the first time, there’s one person who loves him so much that he can kill, and there’s this other person who loves her so much that he can die for her.”
He had further praised Mani Ratnam’s direction and added, “What happens next? Does he die because of her, or does he live? You don’t know. That is a very beautiful thought. And in the book too, it (the love story) is not finished; it’s left for us to conjure up some image in our minds. Mani sir has wrapped it up beautifully, and I just love it.”
Directed by Mani Ratnam with music by AR Rahman, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has a star-studded cast which includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
