Madhuri Dixit Shares The Reason Why She Took Up Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Dil To Pagal Hai After Working With Him In Anjaam And Koyla

Madhuri Dixit recalled how she suggested Shah Rukh Khan to pair up with her for a romantic film after their intense roles in Anjaam and Koyla.

Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan left us spellbound with their mesmerizing chemistry in Yash Chopra’s 1999 musical romance Dil To Pagal Hai. Who can forget their sizzling ‘aur paas moment’ in the film that almost left us gasping for breath!

Before this Yash Chopra, Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan had worked together in two films- Anjaam (1994) and Koyla (1997). In Anjaam, SRK essayed the role of obsessive lover to Madhuri’s character Shivani while Koyla had the Bollywood superstar play a mute man who is forced to trick a woman into marrying his wealthy employer only to end up falling in love with her himself.

In a recent interaction with Pinkvilla when Madhuri was shown a picture from Koyla, the actor narrated the backstory behind her doing Dil To Pagal Hai with Shah Rukh Khan.

She shared her memory behind the picture shown to her and said,  “This is the chase scene where the goons are chasing us and we’re running away. And I remember when we were doing this scene, we had done Anjaam before this. And then the next film was Koyla with Shah Rukh.”

She continued, “In Anjaam, we’re either beating each other up all the time. And in this one, we’re running away in dirty clothes, we’re dirty and we’re in all kinds of bad situations.”

The actress then went on to narrate how she suggested King Khan to do another romantic film after these two films, but with a ‘prettier and cleaner’ look.

Madhuri shared, “So I was just talking to Shah Rukh and said ‘We need to do a movie where we are like clean, dress beautiful, look pretty and do romantic scenes together. What is this? We are always running and then what happened was Dil To Pagal Hai after that.”

Dil To Pagal Hai also starred Karisma Kapoor in a pivotal role, and had Akshay Kumar making an extended guest appearance.

Currently, Madhuri Dixit is basking in the success of her recent horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 co-starring Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan and Triptii Dimri.
