Kritika Kamra, in a recent interview, opened up on why she was not selected for Star One’s popular youth show, Dill Mill Gayye.
Auditions are a part and parcel of an actor’s life. Sometimes they make it to the final cut and sometimes they don’t. Kritika Kamra, a popular face on television who is slowly making her mark in the web space as well, walked down the memory lane and recalled how she wasn’t selected for Star One’s popular TV show, Dill Mill Gayye which featured Karan Singh Grover as the male lead as the makers felt that she was ‘too young’ to play a postgraduate in the show.
Kritika told Bollywood Bubble, “So, they were auditioning for Dill Mill Gayye. And I went in for that. But because I was dressed a certain way, they looked at me and said, “You are too young to play a postgraduate.” I was just a school pass-out so I was quite young.”
She continued, “So they looked at me and said, “No, you are too young for this.’ But we are making another show, called Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar. They were casting for a part of this tomboy role. Somehow that day I was dressed like that, which gave them the idea that I could fit that part they told me to audition for it. A month later they called me and told me to come to Bombay. My parents and friends were shocked but it was for real.”
Kritika went on to make her telly debut with Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar. But it was her portrayal of Arohi Sharma in Ekta Kapoor’s Kitani Mohabbat Hai which made her a household name. The actress went on to feature in shows like Kuchh Toh Log Kahenge and Reporters.
In 2018, Kritika forayed into Bollywood with Jackky Bhagnani-starrer Mitron. The film failed to make a mark at the box office. Her next big screen release was Anubhav Sinha’s Bheed in 2023. Meanwhile, Kritika also dabbled with the OTT space and featured in series like Tandav, Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, Hush Hush and Bambai Meri Jaan. She was recently seen in Zee5’s web show, Gyaarah Gyaarah,
