Kareena Kapoor Khan opened up on how her elder sister Karisma Kapoor paved her own way in the film industry when people had doubts about her.

The Kapoor sisters- Kareena and Karisma have made their mark in the film industry with their respective achievements. While Karisma made her acting debut with Prem Qaidi in 1991, Bebo followed into her sister’s footsteps and forayed into Hindi cinema with JP Dutta’s Refugee in 2000. Over the years, both the sisters have given several memorable performances and won hearts.

Recently, while speaking at Express Adda, Kareena Kapoor Khan admitted that her journey in films was a lot easier because of her sister who followed the same profession.

The actress said, “I think it was a lot easier for me because people started recognising me as Karisma’s younger sister. I think hanging around on shoots, things started opening up at the time of 1998 or 1999 where everyone was like ‘Karisma’s sister is getting launched.’”

Recalling how her sister Karisma faced strange comments from people including remarks like “light-eyed actresses won’t become stars,” Bebo lauded her dedication and continued, “She kind of sowed the seeds and I reaped a lot from it. ”

“A lot of exposure happened being with her on sets. I have to give her so much credit. A lot of people initially never really supported her because a lot of people said light-eyed actresses can never become big stars, so ‘don’t’ cast her.’ Also she had the taboo of the Kapoor family,” Kareena said at the event.

Calling her sister ‘kind of groundbreaking in many ways,’ the Jab We Met star said that Karisma just pushed herself and became the darling of the 90s with her dedication and hard work through all her films.

Kareena share, “Her fans gave me a lot of love. She did a lot of commercial work and I chose an alternate path in Refugee. She was giving blockbusters. We kind of had different paths.”

On the work front, Kareena Kapoor is currently awaiting the release of her Netflix film Jaane Jaan. Her sister Karisma, on the other hand, will next be seen in Abhinay Deo’s crime series, Brown.
