Kareena Kapoor Khan recalled how she was inspired by late Sridevi to pursue a career in acting.
In a career spanning more than two decades, Kareena Kapoor Khan has delivered many acclaimed performances and established herself as a top star. The actress who stepped into Hindi cinema with JP Dutta’s cross-border romance Refugee opposite Abhishek Bachchan has a charm of her own which never disappoints on screen. And like most of us, the diva is a huge fan of Sridevi.
Recently, in a chat with her ‘Jaane Jaan’ co-stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Vjay Varma for Netflix India, Bebo shared how the late star inspired her to take up acting profession.
During the course of the chat when Jaideep asked Kareena if there was an actor, film, or scene that they imitated in front of the screen as a child.
In response, the Laal Singh Chaddha actress recalled, “I was inspired by Sridevi ji. I became an actress because of her….I think I had seen Chaalbaaz and Khuda Gawah 20-25 times. By seeing her acting because she was just so natural and I loved doing comedy. And, she I think was like just amazing at it. So I think she’s truly been an inspiration.”
Hearing this, when Vijay Varma asked her if she actually stood in front of the mirror and performed Sridevi’s scenes, the Bollywood actress replied with a “fully” and added how she would perform to her iconic song ‘Hawa Hawaii’.
Further, in the same interview, Bebo was also asked about how she deals with the fact that she is mostly remembered for her roles as Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Geet from Jab We Met.
To this, the Bollywood star said, “In a way, of course, it has kind of not allowed the audience to know my versatility but directors have.” She also mentioned that she has worked with people like Govind Nihlani, Vishal Bhardwaj, and Mani Ratnam and has tried to break away from the “pop culture of pretty, hot and tempting” image. However, the actress also admitted that no matter how much she tries to do different things, people love to only go back to Poo or Geet.
On the film front, Kareena Kapoor Khan recently made her Netflix debut with Sujoy Ghosh’s crime thriller Jaane Jaan. Next, she has The Buckingham Murders and The Crew in the pipeline.
