Director Siva recently spoke about his upcoming film, Kanguva which features Suriya in a leading role.
There has been a lot of buzz around Suriya’s 42th film titled Kanguva ever since the makers announced this film and dropped the first look posters. Touted to be the actor’s costliest film in his career till date, the period thriller is helmed by Siva.
In a recent interaction with Cinema Express, the filmmaker spilled the beans on his movie and clarified the rumours doing the rounds about Suriya’s role in this big-budget project.
Explaining the meaning of the film’s title, Siva told the publication that Kangu means ‘fire’ in Tamil, and Kanguva is about a person who can wield fire.
At the same time, he also clarified that one shouldn’t take the literal meaning of the word and speculate that Suriya is essaying the role of a man with any superpower.
“The mythology-like setting might lead someone to believe this is a fantasy. However, Kanguva is not a fantasy film and Suriya sir’s character does not have any superpowers,” the portal quoted Shiva as saying.
Previously, in one of his interviews, the film’s producer Gnanavel Raja had revealed that the budget of Kanguva is thrice the amount of Suriya’s biggest film so far. Further, he even shared that he hid the budget of the film from Suriya because the actor is careful about taking risks and affecting the producer.
Kanguva stars Disha Patani as the female lead. The film marks her debut in the Tamil film industry.
