Kangana Ranaut opened up on the ordeal she went through for Emergency and said that she will never make political movies again.
Kangana Ranaut’s political drama Emergency was supposed to hit the theatrical screens in September last year. Unfortunately, the film’s release got stalled after it failed to meet the CBFC’s requirements for certification. Later, the film got embroiled in yet another controversy when Punjab’s Shiromani Akali Dal claimed that the film might ‘incite communal tensions’ and ‘spread misinformation, hatred and social discord’, and sent a legal notice to the CBFC seeking to prevent the release of the film.
After all these controversies, Emergency is now all set to arrive in cinema halls on January 17.
Recently in a chat with News18 Showsha, Kangana admitted that she has learnt an important lesson amidst all the ordeal she underwent for this movie. She vowed that she will never make political movies again because it’s difficult to make them.
The actress said, “I’m never making a political film again. I’m not very motivated. It’s so difficult to make one. I now understand why not many people do it, especially on real-life characters. Having said that, I think Anupam (Kher) ji was amazing in The Accidental Prime Minister as Manmohan Singh. It’s one of his best performances. But if you ask me, I’m never doing it again.”
Kangana said that despite the struggles she went through during the making of Emergency, she never lost her cool on the film’s sets.
The Tanu Weds Manu star said, “If you are the producer, who would you lose your cool on? (laughs) As a director, one can fight with the producer but if you’re doubling up as both, who can you fight with? I wanted to say out loud that I need more money and I’m not happy. Par main kahaan jaake roti? Kisko kya bolti?”
She admitted that there were times when she was engulfed by ‘anger and helplessness.’
“We were shooting during the pandemic. I had my international crew and they’re known to be very strict. They had stringent contracts and needed their payments by the end of every week. Since they were locked for my film, I had to pay them even if I wasn’t shooting. And then, there was the Assam floods. I also had other issues I was dealing with. I was struggling to make this film. Mujhe besahara feel hota tha. I used to feel frustrated. But who I do show that frustration to? There was no one,” Kangana was quoted as saying.
The actress further said that it was her family, and particularly her her sister Rangoli Chandel, who bore the brunt of her ‘frustration’ stemming from Emergency shooting.
Kangana explained, “When you’ve a distressing job like my mine, you’ll end up taking your family for granted. Koi toh hona chahiye jisko aap kuch bhi bol sakte ho. Sometimes, I wouldn’t even be speaking to them. I believe it’s a big privilege to go home and not talk to anyone if you don’t want to. It’s a privilege to have a family who you can be yourself with.”
Emergency has Kangana Ranaut essaying the role of late PM Indira Gandhi.
