Actor Vikram, in one of his recent interviews, opened up on refusing Kamal Haasan’s offer to feature in the televised version of Ponniyin Selvan.
Vikram’s portrayal of Aditha Karikalan in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 1 earned him rave reviews from every nook and corner. Now, fans can’t wait to watch him again in this role in the second part of this magnum opus.
Recently, in one of his promotional interviews for Ponniyin Selvan 2, Vikram revealed that several years ago, Kamal Haasan had approached him for the televised version of this epic novel penned by Kaveri Krishnamurthy.
The Sadma actor had even told him that he could choose whichever role he wanted to play. However, Vikram turned down his offer saying that he would wait for it to come to the big screen.
The Thangalaan actor told News18, “The interesting thing that happened was that, long back, Kamal sir called me to his office and told me that he wants to produce Ponniyin Selvan. He wanted to do it for television. He told me, ‘I would like you to do a role… You can do whichever role you want.’ So, I was given the chance to do any of the three roles. I told him that I would read the books.”
“He had said, ‘As an actor, I may not want to do it but you think about it since it’s for TV and take a call’. The next day, I got back to him and told him that I would wait for it to come to the big screen. It’s very strange that I’ve always been on somebody’s mind for Ponniyin Selvan. But it’s a nice thought,” Vikram told the publication.
Speaking about the cinematic adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan, the second part of the film is slated to hit the big screens this week. Besides Vikram, the Mani Ratnam directorial also features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipal and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
