Kamal Haasan, at a recent event, shared that he worked as an assistant director on the sets of Ramesh Sippy’s blockbuster film Sholay.
Kamal Haasan along with Prabhas and Rana Daggubati recently launched Nag Ashwin’s much-anticipated film Kalki 2898AD (previously called Project K) at San Diego Comic Con. The movie features Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Disha Patani with Kamal Haasan essaying the role of the antagonist.
Big B and Deepika couldn’t attend the event. However, the former made his presence felt via video call. At the promotional event, Kamal Haasan was all praise for the Shahenshah Of Bollywood and said that we are honored to be living in the megastar’s era.
He further added, “Each film of his is filled with reality. He puts so much effort in each film. The roles that he has played are quite amazing. It’s an honor to be in the same film as him. We have done a couple of films together but this one (Kalki 2989AD) is going to be very special.”
Kamal also shared with the audience that he worked as an assistant director on the sets of Amitabh Bachchan‘s Sholay and went on to narrate a funny incident.
““For those who remember Sholay with nostalgia, I was an assistant director. And, I couldn’t sleep that night when I saw Sholay. First, I hated the film so much, I hated the filmmaker (Ramesh Sippy) even more. And I had the opportunity of working with that great filmmaker and I told him that that was my reaction when I saw the film. As a technician, I couldn’t sleep that night and that’s the kind of movie… many such movies Amit ji has done, and to hear him say nice things about my films is something I had not imagine when I was an assistant director and watching Sholay on the big screen. Thank you, Amit ji,” ” said the Vikram star.
At the event, Kamal also opened up on why he agreed to take up a negative role in Kalki 2989AD and explained, ” The reason I accepted this film is because I come from analogous cinema. Without a negative, there’s no positive. So, a negative role is an important role in a film.”
Kalki 2989AD is slated to release in theatres on January 12, 2024.
