Jawan director Atlee credited Shah Rukh Khan for the film’s success. The action entertainer emerged as the highest Hindi film opener at the box office.
Shah Rukh Khan’s much anticipated film Jawan released in cinema halls on Thursday (September 7). The Atlee directorial, upon its release, opened to positive reviews and witnessed a blockbuster opening at the box office.
The mass action entertainer set a new record for the highest opening day collections by minting Rs 65.50 Crore (nett) on Day 1. This record was earlier held by Shah Rukh Khan’s previous release Pathaan (Rs 55 Crore).
Meanwhile, the film’s director Atlee paid a visit to Mumbai’s iconic single screen theatre Gaiety. When he stepped out of the theatre post the screening, the reporters asked him about his movie’s huge opening. In response, he said, “Love everyone. Everyone is loving back. Everyone loves Shah Rukh Khan.”
When asked about his role in making SRK look larger-than-life on the big screen, he said, “It is all because of Shah Rukh sir.”
Prior the film’s release, Atlee, in a chat with Siddarth Srinivas, had addressed the criticism he often faces about rehashing familiar stories.
He had said, “The only criticism that I get is that people keep saying that I bring back stories that they’ve already seen. If you see my friends like Karthik Subbaraj, Lokesh and Pa. Ranjith, they have adapted to different spaces in cinema such as different filmmaking, action, social issues etc. I’m the only one who believes in commercial cinema, star-driven films and a massy screenplay. So I’m bound to get such criticisms. But yes, my motive is to entertain the audience and make them feel for my characters. I feel I’ve succeeded so far and I’ll hopefully do again with Jawan tomorrow.”
Jawan features Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in leading roles with Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Dutt stepping in for a cameo. The supporting cast includes names like Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Girija Oak, Sunil Grover, Ridhi Dogra, amongst others.
