Imtiaz Ali broke his silence on reports of a sequel to his 2007 romantic drama Jab We Met which featured Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Jab We Met which released in 2007, enjoys a massive fan following even after years of release. Kareena’s portrayal of the effervescent Geet and Shahid’s introvert Aditya holds a special place in their hearts.
Recently, the social media went abuzz with speculations about Jab We Met 2 being on the cards. As these rumors flew thick, fans couldn’t contain their excitement. However, this latest piece of news might now leave them a bit disappointed.
In a chat with News18, Imtiaz has denied reports of a sequel to Jab We Met, adding that he doesn’t have a story for it as of now. He also told the portal that he has read about reports claiming that Jab We Met sequel is happening, however, no one checked with him before publishing the reports.
The filmmaker was quoted as saying, “No, it’s (Jab We Met 2) not happening. I don’t have a story for Jab We Met 2 yet. I’ve heard of these and read these reports and articles. Nobody asked me before publishing them, so I don’t know what to say. But let’s see what happens.”
Earlier this year, Jab We Met saw a re-release in theatres after 16 years during the Valentine’s week and it was all jam-packed as fans flocked to watch Aditya and Geet again on the big screen.
Later, in an interview with a major publication, Shahid said, “I feel, Jab We Met happens once in two decades and it’s not like an everyday film. Most of the film one does in this genre are bad, so one needs to pick up a decent script. In fact, Imtiaz (Ali, director) and I were also chatting to find something in this space again. I want to do something fun and exciting.”
Imtiaz Ali’s last directorial was Love Aaj Kal starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in 2020. The film was a major disappointment at the box office.
