Karan Vohra, who is currently seen in Star Plus’ popular TV soap Imlie, spoke about how he regretted staying away from the small screen to explore other mediums.
After featuring in shows like Zindagi Ki Mehek and Krishna Chali London, Karan Vohra took a break to try his luck in films and OTT. However, his decision backfired and the actor remained out of work for almost three years. He bagged a series but it failed to take off owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Left with no other choice, Karan moved back to his hometown, Delhi, to save on rent and other expenses. He was offered the lead role in the TV show, Pinjara Khubsurti Ka but he wasn’t keen on doing a daily back then though he did drop in for a cameo in the same show.
His three-year sabbatical finally came to an end when he bagged the lead role of Atharva in Star Plus’ popular show, Imlie alongside Megha Chakraborty.
In his latest interaction with ETimes, Karan opened up on how he regrets taking a break from the small screen and what he learnt from his experience.
The tabloid quoted him as saying, “I committed the biggest mistake by taking a break from television to explore other mediums. This experience taught me a lesson that nobody is irreplaceable. We should not let our ego influence our decisions, as it causes us to miss out on opportunities. Despite my previous success on TV, I decided to experiment with OTT, believing it was the next natural progression.”
When asked if he felt any pressure of recreating the magic of former lead couple, Fahmaan Khan and Sumbul Touqeer in the show, Karan replied, “It’s natural to feel that way and I, too, was anxious Sumbul and Fahmaan set a benchmark and I had to push the envelope and take the show a notch higher. We have seen several shows featuring big actors failing to make a mark and wrapping up in two months. Given the scenario, it is better to take up an ongoing show.”
Besides Karan Vohra, Imlie also features Megha Chakraborty, Seerat Kapoor and Zohaib Ashraf M Siddiqui.
