Ayushmann Khurrana reacted to Nushrratt Bharuccha getting replaced by Ananya Panday as the leading lady in Dream Girl 2.
Ayushmann Khurrana-Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Dream Girl which released in 2019, opened to critical acclaim and turned out to be a surprise blockbuster at the box office. Four years later, the makers are back with a sequel titled Dream Girl 2. While Ayushmann continues to play the protagonist in the sequel, Ananya Panday has replaced Nushrratt Bharuccha as the leading lady.
In a recent interaction, Nushrratt expressed her disappointment over the same and said that she was unsure why she wasn’t cast in Dream Girl. She also added that she have loved to work with the team again.
Now, Ayushmann Khurrana has also reacted to this cast replacement in a chat with Indian Express. On being asked about Ananya being his co-star, given the age difference, he said, “Mere se bade bade actors ka age difference aur bhi zyada hai.”
He also opened up on Ananya replacing his Dream Girl co-star Nushratt Bharuccha and explained, “This is an organic sequel to Dream Girl. We had to cast a different film, and Ananya fit the bill. I think she is very spunky and adds value to the film. The way she has taken the accent in the film, the Mathura accent, is very commendable. It was fun working with her and I would love to work with her in the future as well.”
Further, in the same interview, Ayushmann expressed his desire to do more massy films without compromising on the content.
“The appreciation that comes from people, film critics and journalists it is a great validation, at the same time the aspiration is to always do films which are different, clutter-breaking, novel, to build a filmography that I should be proud of when I look back, and it’s happening. However, I don’t want to take this thing too seriously and want to just move forward, learn and evolve as an actor and keep it as simple and basic as possible,” the actor told the publication.
Besides Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday, Dream Girl 2, helmed by Raj Shaandilyaa, also features Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Abhishek Bannerjee, Manjot Singh, amongst others. The film is slated to release on August 25, 2023.
