Karisma Kapoor was almost finalised to play the heroine opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Abbas-Mustan’s comedy thriller, Baadshah.
Shah Rukh Khan-Twinkle Khanna’s 1999 action comedy, Baadshah completed twenty-five years earlier this week. To mark the milestone, the film’s producer Ratan Jain, in an interview with an entertainment portal, shared some unknown trivia about the movie.
While speaking with Bollywood Hungama, Jain revealed that Karisma Kapoor was the first choice for the role of Seema in this Shah Rukh Khan starrer before Twinkle Khanna bagged the part.
The producer shared, “Earlier, we had considered Karisma Kapoor. She was almost finalised but then for some reason, she couldn’t come on board. Then we looked for a few options. Finally, we locked Twinkle Khanna.”
He further said that the makers changed the film’s second half to make it look more serious. “To be honest with you, the second half was supposed to be something else. But then we changed the script. If you look at the film, the first half is very comic but in the second half, it gets a bit serious,” he told the publication.
One of the most popular scenes feature Shah Rukh Khan who essays a private detective in the film, climbing a building wearing sticky shoes and also using some cool gadgets.
Speaking about the challenges while filming those scenes, Ratan Jain said, “There was no VFX like it is right now. But we did have some effects. Honestly, in some scenes, we were not very happy with the effects. But we had to compromise. If there was VFX in those times, toh phir bahut kuch ho sakta tha (we could have done a lot more).”
Loosely inspired by the American film, Nick Of Time, Baadshah also featured late Amrish Puri, Johnny Lever, Rakhee, Sharat Saxena and Deepshikha in pivotal roles.
