Kangana Ranaut opened up on how her upcoming film Chandramukhi 2 is different from its previous iterations.
Kangana Ranaut is all pumped up about her upcoming Tamil horror comedy Chandramukhi 2 which also stars Raghava Lawrence. The film helmed by P Vasu is a sequel to Rajnikanth’s 2005 blockbuster film Chandramukhi. Over the years, while there have many iterations of this story which traces back to the Malayalam 1993 hit Manichitrathazhu, Kangana, in a new interview, opened up on how her portrayal of Chandramukhi is different from the previous versions.
Addressing comparisons with Jyotika which had played the titular role in the Rajnikanth film, the Manikarnika actress, according to Indian Express, said that she is a fan of Jyotika’s Chandramukhi herself.
Kangana explained, “I am a fan of Jyotika ma’am’s Chandramukhi myself. However, unlike before, I am playing the real Chandramukhi in this film. I am not the one who gets possessed by Chandramukhi. That’s the difference. My character will reveal why she became a ghost in the first place. Lakshmi Menon’s character is the one which is inspired by Jyotika ma’am’s character. What I am doing in the film is playing the original Chandramukhi.”
The actress also expressed her excitement over her return to Tamil cinema and shared, “This is my third film in Tamil after Dham Dhoom and Thalaivii. I am happy all three have been good. Especially, Chandramukhi 2 because I haven’t done such a colourful film with elements like drama, fights, and songs. It is also a high point in my career to work with Raghava Lawrence sir, who made me so comfortable on the sets.”
Chandramukhi 2 revolves around a family who moves into a palace which is rumoured to be haunted by the vengeful ghost of Chandramukhi. The film is slated to hit the big screens on September 28, 2023.
