Bobby Deol reflects on an unforgettable music sitting with Nadeem–Shravan during his debut film Barsaat, where over 100 songs were played; some of which later found their way into Shah Rukh Khan’s breakout film Deewana.

Rajkumar Santoshi’s romantic drama Barsaat (1995) introduced Bobby Deol’s brooding charm to the big screen, pairing him with fellow debutant Twinkle Khanna.

Besides their striking debut, the film is still remembered for its unforgettable music, crafted by the legendary duo Nadeem–Shravan. Songs like ‘Humko Sirf Tumse’, ‘Love Tujhe Love Main Karta’ & ‘Nahin Yeh Ho Nahin Sakta’ struck a deep chord with audiences, becoming instant chartbusters.

In a recent conversation with Radio Nasha, Bobby Deol revealed that the music sitting for Barsaat with composer duo Nadeem–Shravan featured over a hundred tracks, some of which were later selected for Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film Deewana, where they went on to become chartbusters.

The Animal actor shared, “I think Nadeem-Shravan, to this day, were among the most amazing music directors. I still remember having a music sitting at my house—God knows, they must’ve played over a hundred songs. And each one was better than the last. It was so hard to choose. I kept wondering how Dad would even select from such incredible options.”

He continued, “That same day, I also heard the songs for the film Deewana. At that time, they weren’t yet finalized as Deewana’s songs. But the ones we chose for our script also turned out to be hits. I even heard songs from other films that hadn’t been picked yet by anyone.”

“Also, Nadeem had a real fondness for Natural’s ice cream. Whenever you’d go to his house for a music sitting, Natural’s ice cream would arrive. And Nadeem–Shravan would treat all of us to it,” Deol shared.

In the same chat, Bobby also recalled his first shot for Barsaat, and called it a ‘special moment’.

The actor narrated, “I still remember, a set had been built at Film Star Studio, designed like an old factory. In the center, they’d created an arena where street fighters would battle. I had to climb down the stairs, walk, and descend into that space. I remember, that was my first shot, where I come down, look into the camera, and smile. I was so nervous, my whole body was shaking. It was my first day. But that was my first moment. That was the first day with Shekhar Kapoor. With Rajkumar Santoshi, I don’t remember much else, because the first day is always just… the first day.”

Barsaat was originally slated to be directed by Shekhar Kapur. Bobby had even completed 27 days of shoot with him. However, due to creative differences and scheduling conflicts, Kapur stepped away from the project, and Rajkumar Santoshi took over the reins.

Workwise, Bobby Deol was recently seen in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut The Ba***ds Of Bollywood.
