Dalip Tahil, in a new interview, recalled how the producer of Baazigar went into ‘deep depression’ after a few special screenings of his film, believing it was going to end up as a massive disaster. However, Shah Rukh Khan was confident about the film’s fate at the box office.

Before becoming the ‘epitome of romance’ on screen, Shah Rukh Khan made his mark with negative roles in films like Baazigar, Darr and Anjaam. Speaking about Baazigar, in a recent interview, Dalip Tahil who essayed the role of Madan Chopra in the film, revealed how the film’s producer was worried about his film bombing at the box office and had slipped into ‘deep depression’ after looking at people’s reaction to Baazigar at special screenings.

However, the film’s leading man Shah Rukh Khan was ‘absolutely’ confident about the film’s fate at the box office.

In the latest episode of Untriggered with Aminjaz, Dalip said, “The producer at one point in time was in deep depression. He said, ‘You know, this movie’s gonna bomb. Nobody’s gonna give me any money. Nobody’s gonna distribute it. I’m finished. Ruined.”

The actor revealed many popular actors had refused to play Shah Rukh Khan’s role in Baazigar because the leading hero had to kill the heroine. However, King Khan took up the role and was confident about it.

“Baazigar was really very different. Because in this movie, traditionally, the leading man is the leading man. You don’t go around killing the leading lady. Which is what Shah Rukh did in the film. I mean, he chucked her off the roof. So, he’s like a murderer. Shah Rukh was absolutely confident that everything was okay. He said it was done for a reason, obviously. And it became an iconic movie. It’s just amazing, it broke the set formula,” Tahil recalled.

In the same interview, he also recalled an encounter with a fan at Heathrow Airport in London wherein the latter scolded him for beating Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film. Dalip believed that the fan was totally besotted with the superstar and felt terrible about the way she rebuked him.

Baazigar which released in 1993, was helmed by Abbas-Mustan. The romantic thriller marked the Bollywood debut of Shilpa Shetty and also featured Kajol in a pivotal role.
