When the first poster of Allu Arjun’s much-anticipated Pushpa sequel, ‘Pushpa 2- The Rule‘ dropped online, fans were taken by surprise. The sneak-peek featured the Telugu superstar wearing a saree with heavy jewellery and a pistol in one hand.
Allu Arjun’s androgynous avatar created a huge buzz as netizens came up with their own theories behind his surprising look. Recently at the press meet for Pushpa 2- The Rule in Mumbai, the actor finally spilled the beans about his lady getup in the first poster of his upcoming film.
The ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ actor shared that the initial first look for Pushpa 2 had already been shot and finalized, and was ready for release when the film’s director Sukumar approached him with a fresh idea. The filmmaker felt that the original concept wasn’t impactful enough and suggested dressing up the Pushpa star as a woman to shock the audience with something unexpected.
Allu Arjun shared, “This one poster set the bar for Pushpa 2 to become this phenomenon and it’s purely Sukumar Sir’s idea. There’s a story behind this.”
He continued, “We shot Pushpa 2 poster in a different look..you know like those safari suits and bling to the next level. We finished that photoshoot and it came out well. But Sukumar garu was feeling uneasy. He was like, ‘no, not this.’ I was like, ‘What’! We finished the entire photoshoot and we are going to release the picture, and now you are telling me that this isn’t working!’ He said, ‘yaa, I want to give a shocker.’ I said, ‘what shocker.’ He said, ‘I want you to dress up like a lady.’ I was like, ‘what, are you crazy’? (laughs). He explained me what we were looking at, and then we worked around it. We did a couple of photoshoots. The first two shoots failed. We finally got the beat in the third one. And then, I knew what my maverick and genius man, Mr Sukumar garu is looking at. That is purely his genius idea.”
Pushpa 2- The Rule features Rashmika Mandanna as Allu Arjun’s leading lady while Fahadh Faasil essays the role of the main antagonist. The film is slated to hit the theatrical screens on December 5.
