Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently spoke about why she doesn’t get offered roles like Ponniyin Selvan 2 when it comes to Hindi cinema.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently won hearts as Nandini in Mani Ratnam’s magnus opus, Ponniyin Selvan 2 which also starred Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipal and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The actress received praise from every nook and corner for her layered performance.
Recently, in an interview with Film Companion, Aishwarya was asked why she is not being offered roles with such complexities and depth in Hindi cinema.
In response, the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress opined, “Well that’s a silent question I think everybody normally ends up asking. We are all creative people, when something turns out so good and feels so right, creatively for the people working on it, as well as for the audience, that’s the response it evokes. I think one of the most beautiful and most rewarding moments is when questions like these arise for the actors, the leading ladies…”
Aishwarya lauded Mani Ratnam and said that this is the reason they salute Mani Ratnam and directors like him who create work like this.
“There’s a reason we salute Mani Ratnam and directors like him, who do creative work like this, and that’s why it is such a pleasure for us as artistes to work with them, and to come away with results like this and movies like this, where we are proud of the work we have done. We feel immensely satisfied and Ponniyin Selvan has definitely been immensely satisfying for all of us,” the Guru actress further added.
Before Ponniyin Selvan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Mani Ratnam had teamed up for films like Iruvar, Guru and Raavan. She also featured in the Tamil version of Raavan titled Raavanan.
Coming back to Ponniyin Selvan 2, the Mani Ratnam directorial based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel by the same name, grossed around Rs 330 Crores worldwide.
