Aamir Khan shared they had to change the second half of PK as ‘some of the themes were similar’ to Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal starrer Oh My God.

Aamir Khan’s wide-eyed alien became a pop-culture phenomenon when Rajkumar Hirani’s PK released in cinema halls in 2014. But you would be surprised to know that the Bollywood superstar recently confessed that PK wasn’t exactly the film they had set out to make!
Aamir, in an interview with Variety India, revealed that the original script of PK had a different second half. However, before them, Akshay Kumar-Paresh Rawal starrer OMG – Oh My God! hit the theatres which explored similar themes of questioning blind faith and organized religion.
“In case of PK, which was a huge success, both Raju and I were not really fully happy with the film. Because originally, he had written a different script. And the second half was slightly different from what we had made. But there was another film that came out just before us called ‘OMG – Oh My God!’ And the themes were kind of similar.”
Concerned about the thematic overlap, Hirani insisted on altering PK’s second half. However, before the film’s release, both him and Khan weren’t happy with the creative compromise. However, despite their reservations, the gamble worked, and PK resonated with audiences.
The publication quoted Aamir as saying, “The plot was totally different, because here (in PK) there is an alien, and it’s all totally different, but some of the themes were similar. Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) was very adamant that we must change our second half and we did, and the film was also a success. But before the release, Raju and I discussed how we were not totally happy with the film, but how this was the best we could have done. Luckily, the film worked, and it was a big success.”
Starring Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, late Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt, PK revolves around an innocent alien who lands on Earth and, while searching for his lost device to return home, questions human customs and blind faith.
