Unni Mukundan, post Marco’s box office success, wants to explore stardom as he believes that it will allow him to achieve more than just an actor.
Unni Mukundan’s latest release Marco is having a dream run at the box office. The actioner has turned out to be a bigger success than expected including the Hindi markets. Touted as the goriest film in Indian cinema, the Malayalam film has catapulted the leading man Unni Mukundan to a pan-India star.
In his latest interview with India Today Digital, Mukundan opened up on why he wants to be a star. He said that as a star, he can do things that an actor unfortunately can not.
The Yashoda actor told the publication, “This (film) is an escalation from an actor to a star kind of category. I don’t believe in it (stardom), but it is also something that I would like to explore. I have seen people transcend from newcomers to actors to good actors, stars, and superstars. That is something that I would like to explore because what an actor can not do, a star can.”
According to Mukundan, being a star can allow one to bring out good cinema whereas as an actor, you can only act in good films.
“A star can always bring forth good cinema, they can provide a platform to create good cinema if he wants. An actor can only do good films, because of the market limitations. Sadly, an actor can’t bring out good cinema whereas, if I become a star, I can do a lot of other things. That’s why stardom is important for me,” the Mollywood actor said in his interview.
Speaking about Marco, the Haneef Adeni directorial is currently running successfully in cinema halls across the country in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages. The film follows the story of a gangster who embarks on a violent journey to seek revenge for the loss of his loved ones.
