Atlee, the presenter of Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Baby John, opened up on how they came up with the idea of Salman Khan’s cameo in this action thriller.
Varun Dhawan’s much anticipated film Baby John marks his return to the action genre after a long time. While fans can’t wait to watch him pack a solid punch on screen, there’s one more big reason why their excitement is through the roof.
The cat is already out of the bag that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has a cameo in Baby John, and we already got a tease of him in the trailer of the film. In a recent interaction with Pinkvilla, Atlee who is presenting this Varun Dhawan starrer, spoke about how they got the ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ star onboard for this special appearance in the film.
He revealed that he came up with the idea of Salman Khan’s cameo during a casual conversation with producer Murad Khetani over a cup of coffee.
The ‘Jawan’ director shared, “It was just an initial discussion between me and Murad (Khetani) sir. I told him, ‘Sir, towards the end, I need a cameo… should we ask Salman sir?’ He said, ‘okay’. Next day, he calls me in the morning, and says, ‘Salman has agreed to do a cameo.’ I was shocked. I was like, ‘I was just discussing with you, I don’t have any such scene prepared for it. Let me work on it.’”

Murad Khetani, who was also a part of the same interview elaborated further on how Salman agreed to do a cameo.
“I didn’t have to convince him (Salman). I was just having a conversation with him over a call. During our chat, I simply asked, “Bhai, we want to do a scene with you in Baby John. He was like, ‘Done, let me know when I have to come for it.’ The conversation didn’t go beyond ten seconds.”
Atlee then went on to share his experience of being present with Salman on the set. He said that as a presenter of the film, it was his responsibility to make sure that everything was just perfect as they had a superstar coming on their set.
He continued, “Despite all of that, I was twenty minutes late. Not that I was tardy, but Salman Sir arrived before time. He was asked to reach the set by 1, but he was there by 12.30. We all reached exactly at 1, and we saw him sitting like a lion and waiting for us. I went and said, ‘Hi’, and he replied with a ‘Hi’. Varun Dhawan quipped, he called him, “Bruce Lee Ka bhai Atlee.”
Atlee revealed that after giving his nod to Baby John, Salman blindly trusted them, refusing to hear the scene, and added, “I have never seen a superstar like that.”
Calling Salman Khan a ‘fun-loving’ person, the ‘Mersal’ director revealed, “We captured great action, we got a good five minutes mass scene. You can call it a ‘seetimaar’ scene.”
Touted as an adaptation of Thalapathy Vijay’s 2006 film Theri, Baby John marks the Hindi film debut of National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh and also features Wamiqa Gabbi in a pivotal role. Jackie Shroff essays the role of the main antagonist.
