Gaurav Sharma who plays Toshu in Anupamaa, revealed the reason why he bid adieu to the daily soap.
After Sudhanshu Panday and Madalsa Sharma, Gaurav Sharma, who essays the role of Toshu in Star Plus’ popular daily soap Anupamaa, has also confirmed his exit from the Rupali Ganguly-Gaurav Khanna starrer. Sharma had replaced Aashish Mehrotra as Toshu in May this year.
In a chat with ETimes, Gaurav opened up on his decision of quitting the show, and said that he felt that he cannot convincingly play the father of a 21-year-old on screen. For the unversed, the show is all set to take a new leap.
Sharma told the publication, “I feel it’s time to move on. I don’t think I can convincingly play the father of a 21-year-old and can’t afford to take on roles that are older than my actual age. I remember being typecast in negative roles after playing one, and if I play a father, I might end up being stuck in that age bracket.”
The ‘Yeh Rishtaa Kya Kehlata Hai’ actor further said that when he shared his concerns with the production team, they were very understanding and accepted his decision.
“I shared my concerns with the team and I’m grateful they understood my predicament and accepted my decision. I’ve had a wonderful experience working with the production house and I will definitely miss working with them. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Anupamaa have given me so much, and I hope to collaborate with the production team soon,” Gaurav told the daily.
If reports are to be believed, Manish Naggdev has been roped in to play the new Toshu.
When Gaurav was asked if he has any advice for the new actor who would be his replacement in the show, he said, “I made sure to thoroughly understand the character. It’s important to grasp the nuances of a role, but it’s equally crucial not to imitate the previous actor.”
Buzz is that Anupamaa will be taking a 15-year time leap with several faces from the show marking their exit.
