Kareena Kapoor Khan, over the years, has delivered many memorable performances across different genres. One of them is her portrayal of Dolly in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 crime drama, Omkara, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello.

At a recent event, the Bollywood star, who clocks twenty-five years in the film industry, shared a hilarious anecdote about how her husband and co-star from the film, Saif Ali Khan ended up stealing the limelight from her at a special screening hosted by her.

Kareena shared that she hosted a special trial screening of Omkara and invited many prominent filmmakers including Mani Ratnam to showcase her work and expected praise from them for her performance. Instead, by the end of the screening, Saif’s portrayal of Langda Tyagi in the film left everyone in awe of him.

The ‘Jab We Met’ actress said, “I said it’s such a good performance, I am going to call all the directors. From Mani Ratnam to everybody… all the directors. I am going to have this trial and call all the directors because I think I have done really well in this movie. I had this in Film City and everyone was there and of course, Vishal, Konkana Sensharma, Vivek Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan, everyone was there. And I was excited that they are going to watch me as Desdemona,” she recalled.

She continued, “At interval, everyone came out and said you are really nice, we loved everyone and Saif was amazing. And then, the movie ended and everyone was like ‘You were fab but where’s Saif?’ I was like ‘what is happening? I called everybody to praise me.’ Then suddenly everyone just flocked to Saif and was praising him.”

Omkara, upon its release, was a moderate commercial success at the box office, but received glowing reviews from critics. The film even bagged three National Awards.
