Popular actress Anita Hassanandani, known for TV shows like Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii, Koi Apna Sa, Kkavyanajali, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, and many others, recently opened up on her struggling phase when she lost her alcoholic father when she was just 15.

Speaking about how she was the sole bread-earner at home after her father’s demise, the actress revealed in a podcast with Siddharth Kannan that her first job was that of a receptionist at veteran actor Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswamy’s office.

Anita said, “I was a receptionist at Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswamy’s office. In fact, it was his brother who told me, ‘Why don’t you get a photoshoot done?’ That’s how it all started. It’s been so many years, I have never met them ever since, through this podcast I can thank him for giving me some direction in life. I worked there for a couple of years, then photoshoots, auditions, look tests, and here I am.”

Further, the ‘Naagin‘ actress got emotional while speaking about her late father and admitted that she used to be angry at him for his addiction to alcoholic. However later when she grew up, she realized that he was fighting his own demons. She said that she now understands that he was battling an addiction which makes her want to go back in time and apologize to him.

Tearing up a bit, Anita reminisced, “He actually was an alcoholic. So, I had lost a bit of a connection with him. But with a father, it is always very special. I haven’t spoken about my father, I am sorry, and I don’t know how many years. I miss my father. Now I have a child, so I feel, I wish he met Aarav (her son), it would have been so special.”

She continued, “I was always very angry with him for drinking. I wouldn’t know why… now I know it is an addiction and he was also going through what he was going through. I would want to apologize for not understanding. Now that I understand he was also going through stuff, so I should have understood better.”

On the work front, Anita is now gearing up to make her comeback on small screen in a full-fledged role after a five-year break with her new TV soap, Suman Indori.
