Lakshya, at a recent screening of Kill, opened up on how he took inspiration from actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to prep for his debut film instead of watching Hollywood movies.

Best known for playing the titular role of a warrior in Sony TV’s historical show, Porus, Lakshya is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Karan Johar-Guneet Monga’s joint production, Kill, helmed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.

At a recent special screening of his debut film in Delhi, Lakshya opened up on how he got into the skin of his character. The actor essays the role of an army commando named Amrit in the film.

As per a report in India Today, Lakshya shared, “I did not have to prep for the character; it was written in the script that way. Whatever you saw on screen, it was written by our director (Nikhil Nagesh Bhat) exactly that way. So, we did not follow any reference.”

He further added, “Of course, we sought inspiration from actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. We talk about the West, but the angry young man was ours. We tried to take inspiration but also keep our originality intact. We only had in mind that we wanted to make a desi film.”

On being asked about making his big screen debut with a film like Kill, the actor revealed, “I did not have much choice. I had a film, Dostana, which was shelved and there was another film (Bedhadak), but I could not see anything happening there.”

He continued, “I don’t have any major scenes, all the heavy-lifting has been done by this great actor here (pointing at Raghav Juyal). He has all the funny lines. So when I got a call from the director, and he asked me, ‘what do you think?’, I said ‘what do I think? Mere kaam sirf maarna pitna hai yaha par (My job is only to beat people), but with emotions.”

“When I got the script, I only thought now that I have this script, I will have to die for the role. I have to make sure that no one does the role better than me. That’s how I worked on the film,” the debutant shared.

Touted to be the ‘most violent film in Indian cinema, the ‘A-rated action flick was passed by CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) back in December 2023, with no added cuts. Also starring Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala, Kill had its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in September last year. The film is now slated to release in theatres on July 5, 2024.
