Akshay Kumar, in a new interview, opened up on the underwhelming performance of his latest release Mission Raniganj at the box office.

Barring Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi and Amit Rai’s OMG 2, all of Akshay Kumar’s post pandemic releases have tanked at the box office. His latest release, Mission Raniganj too has failed to mint big numbers.

In a recent interview with India Today, Akshay addressed the film’s underwhelming performance at the ticket windows. While the superstar admitted that the business of Mission Raniganj isn’t up to the mark, he also called it his ‘best film’. He further added that he is very proud of his film.

The actor told the publication, “I love it! I love the fact that I own it. Mission Raniganj – the business of the film is not up to the mark. But I openly say, I have done many films. I’ve done 100-150 films, but Mission Raniganj is my best film, and that’s a big statement to make. I’m talking about a film which has not done well, but this is my best film. I hope people come out to go and watch it in theatres. It is an honest film. It is a film which I’m very, very, very proud of.”

Akshay said that making these kind of films is a risk and added that he takes them up as he doesn’t want to take the safe route.

“I do make these kind of films also. But the happiness that I get when I make a Padman or an Airlift, it gives me satisfaction. I can easily make a Rowdy Rathore or Singh is Kinng and earn triple the amount of money. But I’m very happy making these kind of films. But I also wouldn’t say I will not make these films. I will balance myself.”

Helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, Mission Raniganj is based on the true story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who heroically saved miners trapped in the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989. The film also features Parineeti Chopra and Kumud Mishra in pivotal roles.
