Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt might have played rivals on screen on Subhash Ghai’s 1993 blockbuster Khalnayak, but off screen, the two stars share a warm equation. Recently, in an interview, Jackie talked about his bond with the ‘Vaastav’ actor and also recounted filming a hilarious fight sequence with him for Khalnayak.

Jackie told Siddharth Kanan in an interview with Jio Cinema that he is very close to Dutt and added that they have known each other before entering the film industry.

Sharing his experience of working with him in Khalnayak, he said,  “The happiness of working with your friend (in Khalnayak) is completely different. Then working with your guru Subhash Ghai and talented co-stars like Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta — was a beautiful memory.”

He continued, “I remember climbing a branch of a tree for a fight sequence. Before that sequence, we were watching the monkeys who were sitting on that branch and having fun. Suddenly, Subhash ji told us, ‘Iske uppar chadh kar fight karenge (We will climb on this and fight).’ Suddenly, from watching monkeys, we became monkeys ourselves. That branch was so slippery. We were tied to it with just one hook and were made to fight. It was so much fun.”

Meanwhile, Subhash Ghai’s Khalnayak completed three decades this year. To celebrate this milestone, the filmmaker, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun had gathered under one roof. Further, the film was also re-released in a few selected theatres in September.

Meanwhile, there were reports doing the rounds on social media that Subhash Ghai is planning a sequel to Khalnayak and has already locked the cast for the same. However, later, the filmmaker issued a clarification denying the same and shared that while they have been working on the script of Khalnayak 2 for the last three years, they have no immediate plan to go on floors.

Khalnayak which released in 1993, featured Sanjay Dutt as a gangster named Ballu Balram. Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit played police officers, Ram and Ganga respectively.
