Director Nelson Dilipkumar listed down his three favourite scenes from his last directorial Jailer.
Nelson Dilipkumar’s last release Jailer headlined by superstar Rajinikanth turned out to be a money spinner at the box office upon its release. The film revolves a stern yet compassionate jailer who goes on a manhunt to nab his son’s killers.
Recently, Nelson featured in IMDb’s Burning Questions segment in which he shared his three favourite moments from the Rajinikanth film. Those three scenes were Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) slaughtering a rival’s head, the interval block and the shot where the shot where the actor lights a cigarette in the climax.
The director reflected on his decision to depict the container falling and its doors opening and closing due to the impact and said that he found it interesting to capture these moments from various angles.
He shared, “So, we began with an extreme-wide shot, then transitioned to a medium shot, and finally moved in for a close-up. However, we never anticipated that people would take note of these details to such an extent.”
The ‘Beast’ director said that it gives him immense joy when people notice these technical aspects.
On being asked to pick up the most complicated scene to shoot in Jailer, Nelson revealed that it was physically tiring to shoot the Rajasthan portion.

“There was a sniper fight sequence because of the hot climate and the sand storms. There was no phone signal. In that place, we had to assemble 250-300 people to shoot, which was difficult. We went to many live locations. Since we had Rajini sir, a lot of crowd needed to be controlled,” he recalled.
Besides Rajinikanth, Jailer also stars other heavy-duty names like Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff.
Elaborating on how these actors managed to hold their own despite limited screen time, the filmmaker explained, “They come for fewer scenes yet have their own power and aura. So, their characters were written to match it. Thus, there was a natural balance when these actors did the specific roles. Since it was already in the script, it came out naturally.”
