Preeti Jhangiani Recalls Facing Backlash For A Rain Dance In A Film; ‘I Was Stereotyped And Looked At As A Sweet Simple Girl’

Preeti Jhangiani said she got stereotyped in Hindi cinema as a sweet simple girl, adding that the audience rejected her when she tried to explore something new.

    Preeti-Jhangiani

Most of you remember Preeti Jhangiani for her girl-next-door character Kiran in Shah Rukh Khan-Amitabh Bachchan’s 2000 film Mohabbatein. Post that, the actress went on to star in a couple of Hindi films but they failed to strike a chord like her Hindi debut. After staying away from the screen for a long time, Preeti recently took everyone by surprise with her role in Kafas.

In a recent interview with Indian Express, the Awara Paagal Deewana actress admitted getting stereotyped in Hindi films and recalled how she received flak when she performed a rain dance sequence in a movie.

Speaking about how the audience ‘rejected’ her when she tried to do something new, Preeti explained, “I was stereotyped and looked at as the simple sweet girl. I remember I had a rain dance sequence in a film and I got so much backlash for that. I mean there are actors who have done so much worse. I just couldn’t understand what and why it happened, but that’s how it is. However, I must add that it also depends on the film and its direction. If the film is right, the role will look right.”

The actress shared that she stayed away from screen because of lack of good offers. She revealed that she received many offers from TV including for reality shows, however she didn’t want to take them up.

“If just earning money was my goal, I would have done it. But acting is a passion. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with television but it’s a long commitment. With two children and a company to also run, it wouldn’t have been possible for me,” Preeti told the portal.

Coming back to Preeti’s latest outing Kafas, the actress essays the role of a wife whose superstar husband is a sexual predator.
