What’s common between Dino Morea, John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Milind Soman, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal and Katrina Kaif? These actors started their careers as a model before they made a splash on the big screen.

Talking about Dino Morea, the actor was a popular face in the modelling circuit before he made his debut in Bollywood with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi in 1999. In a recent interaction with Indian Express, the actor opened up on why the number of models making a shift to Bollywood has reduced in recent times.

Dino said, “When I started modelling in the late 1990s, it was sort of coming of age in India. Everyone who became a model at that time was idolised and I saw that happen with me also. There was a craze for us which was on par with the actors. That’s not the case anymore.”

The Kandukondain Kandukondain actor added, “If you are a good actor, you get an opportunity. So, you don’t have to be a model to be a good actor right now. Models were also quite popular back then and you already had the fan base that you can tap into as an actor. Unfortunately, that is not the case today.”

Pointing at how the craze for fashion shows has reduced over the years, Dino told the publication, “I don’t know how many people watch fashion shows on TV anymore. At that point it was new for everybody and there was an aspirational value. You wanted to see models, designers and their clothes. Now it’s done and no one wants to watch fashion shows on TV like they would do back then.”

On the work front, Dino was last seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s series, The Empire. He is now gearing up to make his debut in the Telugu film industry with Akhil Akkineni-Mammootty starrer Agent in which he essays the role of the main antagonist.
