In a recent chat with a leading tabloid, Hema Malini spoke about the lack of good opportunities for female actors in the film industry.

    Cuppa News-Hema Malini

Hema Malini is one of the most popular leading ladies in Hindi mainstream cinema who has delivered several hits like Tum Haseen Main Jawaan, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Johnny Mera Naam, Satte Pe Satta, Kudrat, to name a few in a career spanning more than five decades.

However, the veteran actress still feels that female stars still have to struggle for author-backed roles unlike their male counterparts. Citing example of Amitabh Bachchan, her co-star in several movies, Hema said that he still gets roles that are specifically written for him.

The Kinara actress told Mid-day, “Where are the opportunities today? Even today, author-backed roles are not found for actresses; they are reserved for male actors. Mr Amitabh Bachchan gets such great roles even now, they are written specially for him. But such special roles have not been written for actresses till today. If someone can write a [tailor-made] role keeping me in mind, it would be nice. I think I too am capable of performing well.”

Hema Malini shared that she is waiting to explore different types of roles and added that she will never bid goodbye to acting as it is her passion.

“I’m waiting to explore different kinds of roles, from dramatic to out of the box. The role has to be amazing, so that I can say yes immediately, but nobody has offered me anything like that yet. As an artiste, I would always want to do exciting projects. I will never say no to acting as it’s my passion,” Bollywood’s ‘Dream Girl’ was quoted as saying by the tabloid.

Speaking about films, Hema was last seen in Ramesh Sippy’s 2020 film, Shimla Mirch alongside Rajkummar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh.
