Simran, in a recent interview with an entertainment portal, opened up on playing a mother when she was at the peak of her career in Mani Ratnam’s 2002 film, Kannathil Muthamittal.
    Cuppa News Tamil- Simran

In a career spanning nearly three decades, Simran, known for her impressive acting chops and exceptional dance skills, has delivered several memorable performances and worked with some of the biggest stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya and Vikram to name a few.

One of her most remarkable performances is in Mani Ratnam’s 2002 musical war film, Kannathil Muthamittal in which she shared screen space with R Madhavan, PS Keerthana and Nandita Das. Based on a short story, ‘Amuthavum Avanum’, Simran essayed the role of mother in conflict in this critically acclaimed film.

In a recent interaction with Film Companion, Simran revisited this Mani Ratnam directorial. On being asked if she felt that she took a risk by playing mother on screen when she was at the peak of her career, the Vaali actress said, “I just closed my eyes and went for that role.”

She continued, “There were so many shades to that character. She’s a young mother and a newsreader. She is very progressive, and is ready to adopt a child even before she gets married. I like such bold characters, characters that show the strength of women, whether it’s throughout the movie or just a scene or two. I think of such roles as an opportunity to do good work.”

Kannathil Muthamittal revolves around a nine year old girl whose blissful world collides with reality when her parents disclose to her that she was adopted as an infant.

Speaking about Simran, the actress was recently seen in Rahul V Chittella’s Disney+ Hotstar film, Gulmohar alongside Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore.
