Jackie Shroff opened up on the challenges of doing romantic sequences with Madhuri Dixit on screen.

Back in the 90s, Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit were considered one of Bollywood’s most iconic on-screen pairs. Their chemistry stood out in films like 100 Days (1991), Sangeet (1992), and Khalnayak (1993). However, Jackie had a surprising confession to make when he recently graced The Great Indian Kapil Show with the dhak-dhak girl.

The actor revealed that he felt shy during romantic scenes with Madhuri Dixit, admitting her expressive charm made it hard to look into her eyes.

“I used to feel shy while doing romantic scenes with Madhuri. I was not used to it. A movie is actually filmed in real life; some emotions are private; they live in the heart. How can you just project them onscreen? When she speaks, it is very hard to look into her eyes and talk or sing. She is very lovely and expressive. She is so immersed in her role. When it’s a romantic film, she is romancing,” Jackie said on the show.

He also shared that he had first heard about Madhuri Dixit from late Saroj Khan. The late choreographer had told Subhash Ghai that Madhuri was a beautiful heroine and an excellent dancer who had just entered the industry and should be cast. He added that he remained awestruck by her even today.

When the host Kapil Sharma teased Shroff about why he would abandon his own rehearsals just to watch Madhuri dance, the Hero actor explained that sometimes you simply have to forget yourself in the presence of such artistry.

He added that Madhuri had played every possible role alongside him- from wife to girlfriend, and even mother-in-law in Sangeet. Each time, he felt nothing but happiness, because watching her perform was an experience in itself.

Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit’s last big-screen collaboration was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas (2002). In this tragic romance, the former played the role of the loyal friend of SRK’s Devdas, while the latter stunned all with her iconic performance as Chandramukhi, a courtesan.
