Prithviraj, in a new interview, shared why he turned down the opportunity to work with Karan Johar in the 2013 anthology film Bombay Talkies.

The 2013 anthology Bombay Talkies had one of its segments directed by Karan Johar. The short film titled Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh starred Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Salem and followed the emotional entanglement between a gay man, his female friend and her closeted husband.

But do you know that Karan had initially offered Prithviraj Sukumaran the role of the closeted husband in this film? However, the Salaar actor turned it down because he felt it was too similar to what he had essayed in the 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police. Eventually, the part was played by Randeep Hooda.

Prithviraj made this revelation in his recent interview with the YouTube channel Nayan Sense.

The Aiyyaa actor recalled, “Karan had spoken to me about this, the film he did in the anthology called Bombay Talkies. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be a part of it for two reasons. One, there were genuine issues with my schedule and dates. And two, at that point, I had just finished shooting another film where I played a gay man, and I didn’t want to do similar characters in two back-to-back projects. But it was a wonderful script. I later saw the film, and it was beautifully performed by Randeep Hooda. I did miss the opportunity to work with Karan as a director, which I hope will happen at some point in life.”

Meanwhile, Prithviraj’s latest film Sarzameen recently premiered on Disney+Hotstar. Helmed by Kayoze Irani, the movie also stars Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
