As Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai clocks 25 years today, Ameesha Patel opened up on the ‘challenging’ climax sequence of the film.
Rakesh Roshan’s romantic thriller Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000) was the launch pad for the filmmaker’s son Hrithik Roshan and actress Ameesha Patel. The film, upon its theatrical success, was a huge success at the box office, and turned the two actors into sensations overnight.
But the journey to this stardom wasn’t an easy one! Both Hrithik and Ameesha literally gave their ‘blood and sweat’ to their debut film.
In a recent chat with Hindustan Times, Ameesha recalled how her co-star Hrithik ended up injuring his back badly while shooting for the action-packed climax sequence for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
“While filming the climax scene, Hrithik did a jump and when he fell, we heard his back crack. We had to rush him to the hospital at 4am and the shoot got postponed. We had to rebuild that set 6 months later, and the film got delayed by 6 months because of that one injury,” the Gadar 2 actress shared.
Later, when the team came back on set to shoot the remaining portions of the climax, Ameesha had a near-accident involving a bullet while filming a scene.
The actress said, “When we came back on set to reshoot the remaining portions of the climax, I got a bullet. I had the presence of mind and turned my face, otherwise that bullet shot would have been in my eye and I would have been blinded. I got the bullet to my back and I had a charred hole there. They rushed me in the night to the doctor. Oh! We’ve had quite a journey.”
Further, Ameesha also opened up on her bond with Hrithik, and said that they never saw each other as co-stars but rather as friends who happened to work together in a film.
Our first insecurities, our first shots, watching the trailer cut together for the first time, we’ve shared those moments together. We also shared our doubts and insecurities, as well as our happiness with each other, and there were so many moments on set that were so difficult. But that sense of togetherness helped us both through it,” she was quoted as saying by the publication.
Meanwhile, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai completes 25 years today. To mark this milestone, the makers re-released the Hrithik-Ameesha starrer in cinema halls on January 10, coinciding with the leading man’s birthday.
