Yami Gautam is elated with the box office success of her latest release OMG 2 despite facing several hurdles including an ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board.

Yami Gautam is currently basking in the success of her latest release OMG 2 co-starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi. Despite clashing with another biggie, Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel’s Gadar 2, stirring controversies about its storyline and getting an ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board, the film is slowly heading towards Rs 100-Crore mark.

Recently, in a chat with Hindustan Times post the film’s release, Yami Gautam shared her feelings about her film receiving a positive response from the audience. The actress told the tabloid that she was very confident about OMG 2 and added that the film’s tone wasn’t to sensationalise or titillate the audience.

Yami was quoted as saying, “I was very confident about the film, I watched it for the first time with my mother, a day before the Censor Board saw it. I was like this film is definitely going to work, I will be very surprised if it doesn’t, the tone of the film was not to sensationalise or titillate the audience. What happened later was beyond our control. I am sure it was not easy from a producer and director’s point of view. Years go into making a film. They (CBFC) are also doing their job, but to explain yourself sometimes can be very hard.”

Recalling the period when there were various speculations doing the rounds about the cuts and changes to the film and the subject, even before it received clearance from the Censor Board, the actress continued, “That should be between the producers and the Censor Board. I understand the curiosity, but people had made notions basis that. I requested everyone that while curiosity is natural, but first please watch the film. Going by the majority sentiment now, people have respected the intentions with which the film was made.”

Citing example of her debut film Vicky Donor, Yami said that a decade ago, the film as a one-liner would have raised some eyebrows. But it received a U/A certificate film and went on to become a family film. According to Yami, OMG has even more important concepts. However, she also added that context in which an A certificate is used is very vast.

Speaking about the film’s success, Yami told the publication, “The audience saw right through our intentions, I am very happy for our director Amit Rai because he is such a huge devotee of Shiv ji. There was no mal intention behind making this film. The audience and theatres are saying it more than anyone else, that we wish we could show it to teens, it’s first of a kind. I don’t know what lies in the future, but I wish it was open to the targeted audience. Maybe parents can come back home and share. I am just thankful that despite everything, the audience has embraced it and truly understood the intent of the film.”

Touted to be a satirical comedy-drama, OMG 2 revolves around the theme of sex education.
