Baby John director Kalees shared Thalapathy Vijay’s feedback after he showed the Tamil superstar the trailer of his upcoming film with Varun Dhawan.
Varun Dhawan is gearing up for the release of his upcoming action thriller Baby John, an adaptation of Thalapathy Vijay’s 2016 Tamil blockbuster Theri. Helmed by Kalees, the film is presented by Atlee who had directed the Vijay starrer.
Recently in an interaction with India Today Digital, Kalees revealed that Vijay was impressed with Varun Dhawan’s work after watching the trailer of Baby John.
He shared, “Atlee introduced me to Vijay sir because he has worked with him, and I was kind of new to him. He was warm during the meeting. Later, we showed him the trailer, and he was very impressed. He had such kind words to say about it—it really made my day. Vijay sir also appreciated Varun’s work and the way we have presented him.”
Kalees continued, “We could have easily shown Varun in Manali or any other state, but those locations have already been overexposed to audiences. We wanted to bring a new element, so Varun’s character is set in Kerala. We have explored Kerala like never before in Baby John.” Previously at an event, Varun had clarified that Baby John is not a book-by-book remake of Theri.
Further when Kalees was asked whether fans might get a glimpse of Vijay in a cameo in Baby John, he replied, “Aha! No, here we have Salman Khan’s larger-than-life cameo which will surely make the audience happy. Having said that, we would have loved to get him too, but he was already busy with his political career at the time.”
Baby John follows the story of a cop who goes into the hiding to safeguard his daughter from his past. While Varun Dhawan plays the leading man, Keerthy Suresh, who marks his Hindi debut with this film, essays the role of his romantic interest. The film also features Wamiqa Gabba, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav.
