Amrita Rao, in a recent podcast, shared her Main Hoon Na co-star Shah Rukh Khan’s advice that still guides her film choices.
Amrita Rao and Shah Rukh Khan first shared screen space in Farah Khan’s directorial debut Main Hoon Na (2004). It was during this collaboration that the Bollywood superstar offered her a piece of advice that has guided her film choices for over two decades.
Recently, when Amrita appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the actress recalled how King Khan was encouraging on the sets of the film.
Amrita revealed that even amidst a packed shooting schedule, SRK made a gesture that left a lasting impression on her. While filming Main Hoon Na, the actor was simultaneously working on another project. During his break, he called Amrita and her mother to meet him. He even told her that she possessed the qualities of a superstar.
“He told me I will be offered 200 films, but I must sign only two in the hope that one of them is the one people are waiting for.) That has been my criteria while signing films, and that’s why I have been so selective in this journey,” Rao shared.
She added, “He would notice that I was surrounded by newcomers and would absorb that nervous energy from us. Every time, the first take was the best take—there were no retakes. His temperament was such that he believed in not asking for a second take. His focus was so sharp, it was as if he worked to ensure a second take was never needed.”
Main Hoon Na revolves around Major Ram Sharma (Shah Rukh Khan), an army officer who goes undercover as a college student to protect a general’s daughter and fulfill his late father’s last wish of reuniting with his estranged half-brother.
Workwise, Amrita Rao was recently seen in Akshay Kumar-Arshad Warsi starrer Jolly LLB 3.
