Actress Raveena Tandon, in an interview with a publication, spilled the beans on why she refused to feature in ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ song in Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film, Dil Se.

Raveena Tandon, who made her acting debut with Salman Khan starrer Pathhar Ke Phool, was one of the most sought-after actresses in the 90s. Besides giving many superhit films, the diva also has many chartbuster songs to her credit which include numbers like ‘Tip Tip Barsa’, ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’, ‘Ankhiyon Se Goli Mare’ to name a few.

But do you folks know that Raveena was also offered to shake a leg with Shah Rukh Khan in AR Rehman’s iconic song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ which featured in Mani Ratnam’s 1998 tragic romance, Dil Se? However, the actress refused the offer and the song was eventually picturized on Malaika Arora and Shah Rukh Khan.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Raveena Tandon revealed the reason why she turned down the popular track.

The Mohra actress said, “In those days it was very easy to get stereotyped. For example, how many people would know that I left a song like ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ because I had just done ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’ and after that, I started getting offered only item songs.”

“And then, it became a norm that if Raveena is there, then there has to be a superhit song, and which I am very grateful for because till date, people also know me for my superhit songs, all of them are getting remixes, they are getting a new life, it’s all working out very well,” Raveena further told the publication.

Not just Raveena Tandon, even Shilpa Shetty had rejected ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ song and their loss turned out to be Malaika’s gain as the catchy number made her an overnight sensation.

Coming back to Raveena, the actress was last seen in Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2. Her upcoming projects are Sanjay Dutt’s Ghudchadi and Arbaaz Khan’s upcoming production, Patna Shukla.
